Norm Macdonald / Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg & Eminem
October 23, 1999

Hey everybody. This is my first review of the season. First two shows reflected the hosts, as they often do. Jerry Seinfeld is funny. The show was funny. Heather Graham has the talent of a goldfish. The show was as funny as watching water.

Usually they step it up a notch when former cast members return. Norm was always one of my favorites and he should give a great performance.

[OPENING] Rudy Giuliani makes a World Series bet

I don't know all that much about Rudy, but I doubt he's a carbon copy of Al Gore, as Hammond made it seem. One of his few poor impersonations. I probably wouldn't have noticed this if the material wasn't so boring. D

[MONTAGE] Hey! New cast member and Smigel is Back! Sweet! A

[MONOLOGUE] Norm Macdonald

Good Old Norm. Someday he will have his own HBO show, since his style seems suited for a non-censored enviorment. I think he's the only person to say "We've got a bad show for you" A-

[SKETCH] Martha Stewart Living promo

One of the better Martha Stewarts. But that's like saying "one of the better communist regimes." C-

[SKETCH] Great Moments in Yankee History

Norm has a quality of turning bad material into something funny. The writers seem geared towards quick sketches, which is good, but only when the sketch is funny in the first place. B-

[SKETCH] Celebrity Jeopardy

You could have Fallon take French's place on Third Rock and no one would no the difference. Topics weren't too great but all 3 contestants were a riot. A-

[SKETCH] NBC Crosstalk: How Thin is Too Thin?

Oteri was suprisingly subdued in this one. She's showed good range lately. Good Flockhart impression by new girl. Rest of sketch wasn't funny at all. D

[SKETCH] Larry King's News and Views

I'll review both of these at once. Basically a standup performance. Some of it made no sense, but a lot of the lines were funny. B-

[CARTOON] Fun with Real Audio

Not a good installment, but if its back for good, then they could have put on a blank screen and I would have been happy B

Last week was great, so you can't expect him to be great again. The Millenium was ok. C+

[MUSICAL GUEST] Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg

I don't really care for rap so I can't really tell if it was good or not. NG

[SKETCH] The McMulluns argue at Halloween

Best sketch of the night. Norm and Oteri were both hilarious. Was that a Tracy Morgan siting?! I couldn't tell because it was so quick. A

[SKETCH] Michael Jackson drowns his sorrows

What the hell is this?? Nothing funny at all about this piece of junk. F

[MUSICAL GUEST] Dr. Dre featuring Eminem

same as first musical act.

[SKETCH] Bravo's Inside the Actors Studio

Is this a real show? Ferrel was great. Norm was funny. That huge stack of blue question cards was a great touch. The last sketch has been good all three weeks. A

[COMMERCIAL] Chess for Girls

OK idea. just a plain commercial. C

If the Yankees are in the World Series and half of there players are gone, do you think they would play very well? That was the same deal tonight. After the cold opening, Hammond, Shannon, Morgan, and Kattan had a combined 2 lines!! Maybe Lorne is right about disbanding the cast after this year. They are getting too popular for the good of the show. I guess you can't really blame the writers for a bad show when they don't have anyone to write for.

Performer of the night: Ferrel. When the show is going well, he makes it great. When a show is sucking, he always is a bright spot. Tonight he was good as Trebek and the Broadway guy. Hopefully he will stay if everyone else ends up going.

Hopefully they can get their act together, because Dylan Mcdermott doesn't strike me as the hilarious type.
