Ben Affleck / Fiona Apple
February 19, 2000

I have been watching Saturday Night Live since the
'70's and I have never enjoyed an entire show like I
did with this one. I thought Ben Affleck was one of
the best hosts ever--I like a host who takes the time
to memorize his lines and not be reading the cue cards
the whole time!!

NIGHTLINE WITH THE PEANUTS GANG
First of all, I would like you all to know that I
SOOOOOOOOOO love Charles Schulz & the Peanuts gang,
and when I saw they were doing a skit on it I got
nervous, but I thought it was great. Tim's "Franklin"
was the funniest, but I enjoyed everyone in the
sketch. Grade: A

MONOLOGUE
I thought I had seen Gweneth in the audience before
they had her talking, so I sort of knew it was coming,
but I thought their banter was so funny!! I loved when
Gweneth said "Yeah I know you didn't write it because
Matt's not here. This was one of the funniest
monologues--one that actually made me laugh out loud.
Grade: A

COMMERICAL FOR VICTORIA'S SECRET
www.nicebooby.com--Oh, that was too funny. I love VS,
but enough with the close-up on the boobs. I loved
that they did a parody on this. Grade: A

MANGO AT THE REINDEER GAMES PREMIERE
I love Jimmy Fallon as Todd Newton, and Horatio as
Camryn Mannheim was too funny! I have to say I love
Mango--even though it's been done so much--but I think
this is the best one he's ever done. And Ben doing
Matt was too funny!! I love the hats that Mango wears
and his dance in front of Ben. How Ben could get
through the skit without laughing more is beyond me.
Grade: A

BOSTON TEENS PARTY
I love the Boston Teens!! Ben makes a great addition
to Sully & Denise ("Zazoo") as the Boston Teens. I
thought it was so cute that Sully got fired for
sucking on whipped cream cans. And I loved his
"Irregardless" too--that's when he cracked up and
couldn't get focused for a while. Jimmy said to Ben
to "Get ready for a mouth full of Jostens". Horatio
was great too. This is just too good--it's one of my
favorite recurring character skits. Grade: A

Mr. T FUNHOUSE
I even laughed over this one!! "I need work"--great
job!! Grade: A

SPECIAL TRIBUTE
I especially loved it when they were breaking for a
commercial and the piano lady played one of the songs
used in a Peanuts special and they showed Linus with
his hair all wacky. I thought SNL was showing some
class there!! Makes me love them ever more!

FRETT'S FILM FORUM
I thought everybody was funny here, Cheri's & Ben's
characters were the best. I liked how they died down
with their comments at the end. The best was the line
about "Schnieder house rules" Grade: A

FANATIC
I'm so glad they did a parody on this! It was funny.
Jimmy plays such a great friend to Ben's character. I
thought they were great, but I thought that the Anna
Nicole Smith thing was kind of harsh, but I still
thought Molly was great. Grade: A

UPDATE
I've had a crush on Colin Quinn since MTV's "Remote
Control" so I could never say anything bad about
Colin. He was funny and I loved Tim's "Alan Keyes" the
best. Grade: A

MUSICAL GUEST: FIONA APPLE
I don't like her, so I didn't watch. I won't let that
ruin this perfect show rating though.

CAR SALES
I don't know Chris & Cheri's character names, but I
love it when they do this skit. I didn't think they
could top what they've done before--and seem fresh at
it--but they did one of the best ones I've ever seen!
And Ben with those hairy arms and well, you know.
Grade: A

SALLY O'MALLEY JOINS THE POLICE FORCE
Molly as Sally O'Malley was killing me. I thought she
was funny before, but this time I thought she was even
better. "Book 'em Dano I'm 5-0!" Grade: A

COMMERCIAL FOR TRILOCAINE
I was thinking the same thing SNL was--how those drug
commercials go on and on about the nasty side effects
to taking their drugs--who would want to take that
stuff? Grade: A

WHO WANTS TO BE GROPED BY A THOUSAND-AIRE?
I thought this was a great spoof of all the
Millionaire stuff out on TV now. And Ben in that old
car was too funny. Plus the scared look on Chris
Kattan's face was too much!! Grade: A

No, I usually don't grade every skit an "A" but I
thought this show was so perfect!! We still need to
see more of Tracy Morgan though. I'm a HUGE fan of
Jimmy Fallon's and loved seeing him in 5 skits this
time around. (Did you happen to see him on Conan
O'Brien recently? He killed he was so funny!!) I'd say
this one is definitely a keeper and when it comes on
for the rerun I will tape it all again to be sure
that I have 2 copies. (I once lent out my other
favorite SNL ever: the time Christian Slater hosted
for the first time. I cherished that tape, lent it to
a co-worker, the guy quit working and I never saw him
or my tape ever again!!)
