Cuba Gooding Jr. / Ricky Martin
May 8, 1999

Preshow thoughts: Cuba seems like the type of guy who'd be pretty good at this type of a comedy show. And Monica? Well, either she'll suck, or she'll be okay. We'll have to see.

[OPENING] Clinton dreams of Malibu future
I knew Monica was going to say "Live from New York..." I just knew it. However, she did a much better job in this sketch than I thought she would. And I'm really going to have to applaud her for being able make fun of herself like this. God, she's gained a lot of weight since 20/20, hasn't she? Well, anyhoo...

grade: B+

[MONOLOGUE] Cuba Gooding Jr.
Ehhh. Pretty stupid monologue. To tell the truth, I'd totally forgotten about the "Show me the money!" thing. I haven't seen Jerry Maguire since it came out in 1997. The little exchange between Jimmy and Horatio's thoughts was pretty funny, though.

grade: B-

[COMMERCIAL] LOTTO: For the Ones You Love
Uh-huh. Right. I'll give them credit for doing a new commercial this late in the season that's NOT a VH1 commercial, but this was pretty bad.

grade: C

[SKETCH] NBC's improvised miniseries
Started out slow, then got funnier when Horatio joined. He was so totally out of place it was hilarious. Funny, funny, funny.

grade: B

[MISCELLANEOUS] Barbara Walters looks for Monica, part 1
Pretty funny. I love Cheri's Barbara impression.

grade: A-

[SKETCH] Pretty Living
I thought they killed Helen Madden after the Ben Stiller episode. God, I hate her. She's not funny, she never was funny, she never will be funny. Just retire her. Now. Although I'm going to have to say that Cuba's outfit made me crack up. But other than that...horrible. Bad.

grade: C-

[COMMERCIAL] LOTTO: Don't Give Up
This was funnier than the first one. Made me kinda laugh.

grade: B

[SKETCH] The Ladies' Man
I love the Ladies' Man, and having Monica in this sketch made it even better. This was hilarious. I loved Linda (John Goodman)'s line about people throwing stuff at her. Oh, my god. I'm just waiting for the Ladies' Man movie now.

grade: A

[TV FUNHOUSE] Ambiguo Boys
Not that great. I prefer the normal Ambiguously Gay Duo cartoons.

grade: B-

[MISCELLANEOUS] Barbara Walters looks for Monica, part 2
Ehhh. This wasn't bad, but the first one was better.

grade: B

[MUSICAL GUEST] Ricky Martin
He looks a lot like Jimmy Fallon. Has anyone else realized that, or is it just me? Anyhoo, I like this song.

grade: A

[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Colin Quinn
Colin wasn't bad, but I've seen him do better. Liked his Clinton joke, though. And I'm wondering, if Clinton was really watching, how pissed off did he get after seeing all of Monica's sketches? Oh, and the Chris Kattan joke...? What the hell? I mean, that was totally unnecessary. Absolutely, totally uncalled for. Watch it, Colin. He's my favorite cast member. You don't want to get on my bad side the way Norm did.

grade: C (okay, maybe it didn't deserve a C, but I'm extra pissed because of the Kattan comment)

[SKETCH] Mango turns Cuba down
Frightening. I'm surprised that the censors didn't catch Cuba's butt crack. I love Mango, but having him have a wife and a kid kinda ruins it. I thought it would be funnier to have him living with Kiwi...ya know, from the David Spade episode...he coulda made a cameo...it woulda been funnier. Anyhoo, I still think that David Spade Mango sketch was the best.

grade: B-

[COMMERCIAL] New Scratchers from LOTTO
Baaaaadddd.

grade: C-

[COMMERCIAL] Martha Stewart Living promo
This was sooo funny. Ana's Martha impression is so dead on. Really good sketch.

grade: A

[MISCELLANEOUS] Barbara Walters looks for Monica, part 3
Getting old. The end was funny, though.

Tracy: Hi, I'm Tracy Morgan.
Lorne: Yeah. (leaves)

grade: B-

Okay, Cuba did a decent job. And Monica's cameo was a really great idea, and worked out well, too. Watch her get a deal for an NBC sitcom next fall (my god, wouldn't that be frightening?). Anyhoo, Sarah Michelle Gellar and the Backstreet Boys for the season finale? Bad choice. What a crappy way to end a season. Well, maybe I'm not being fair. I'm not crazy about Sarah, but I can tolerate her. But the Backstreet Boys? God. I cannot stand that pathetic excuse for a band. Every single song of theirs sounds the same. Why are they coming on the show again? God, I'm mad.
I have finals this week. Everyone wish me luck, okay? Okay. Thanks. Buh-bye!
