Drew Barrymore / Garbage
March 20, 1999

My friend and I watch SNL every week and I've been taping each episode since 1994 til now so this episode was not all that great to me.

[OPENING] E! Oscar Pre-Show with Joan and Melissa Rivers-
No big laughs. Not really a good opening bit. Parnell is pretty good at doing Tom Hanks even though I hate Parnell. Joan turning into a vampire was pretty cool. C

[MONOLOGUE] Drew Barrymore-
Pretty cool. I think Fallon is becoming an excellent comedian. Good Sandler impression. B

[SKETCH] Celebrity Jeopardy-
Thank God Celebrity Jeopardy lives! I like how Fallon is experimenting with people like Nic Cage. Hammond as Connery always funny. Drew not that great. THE PENIS MIGHTIER! A-

[SKETCH] "How are you doing?" in Banana Republic-
What the hell was this? Horatio is so un-funny I can't believe it. Ferrell salvaged this sketch a little bit. Bad call, Lorne! D-

[COMMERCIAL] VH1 Behind the Music: Captain and Tenille-
No laugh but good impressions. D+

[SKETCH] The How Do You Say? Ah Yes, Show-
I was waiting for this to come back. Once again, Fallon is excellent with "NO NO too sexy!" Not a very good Melanie Griffith impression but a good sketch. B

[TV FUNHOUSE] Fun With Real Audio: Oscar Highlights-
Not as funny as the ones in the past but pretty good. I liked Nicholson eating the sandwich in the front row.B-

[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Colin Quinn-
Even though I don't like Colin, I thought this was one of the best updates he's done. I laughed my ass off at the Mentos joke. Clinton was cool and Kattan's obsession with that song was cool.A

[MUSICAL GUEST] Garbage-
I'm not a big fan of Garbage but I thought they sounded good. B

[SKETCH] Dog Show-
Best sketch all night!! I LOVE Mr.Bojangles. Rocky Balboa is cool too. I liked Tim's hair. A+

[COMMERCIAL] VH1 Behind the Music: Def Leopard-
Could have done without that even though the arm thing was cool. C

[SKETCH] Terrance Maddox models for art class-
Not as good as the first time they brought him on. The flashback was cool. C-

[MUSICAL GUEST] Garbage-
Why didn't they just put Garbage on once? C-

[COMMERCIAL] VH1 Behind the Music: Fred Schneider-
I starting to hate these but Ferrell is cool when he makes up stuff. C-

Week after week, I look to SNL for inspiration for my comedy material but this week wasn't that great. Goodman will save the show, I think, on April 10th. Over all, I give the entire episode a C++. Good luck, Goodman!
