Drew Barrymore / Garbage
March 20, 1999

[OPENING] E! Oscar Pre-Show with Joan and Melissa Rivers: This was very funny; i loved the Joan Rivers/vampire thing they did. I must admit though that I've never seen E! but I know who Joan Rivers is and I've seen Melissa Rivers, just not on TV. But overall, I thought it was a pretty funny opener. My Grade: A-

[MONOLOGUE] Drew Barrymore: I was so glad Miss Barrymore was the host!! She was the most adorable little girl! I thought this was a funny monologue compared to some of the previous ones. However, in a way, I didn't like how Miss Barrymore kind of "laughed" about her teen-life and child-hood because it was really sad. But I hafta admit, it was a funny song :) My Grade: B

[SKETCH] Celebrity Jeopardy: These Jeopardy skits are so funny!! As always, Darrell Hammond is a GREAT Sean Connery (Buck Futter?? That's funny.) It wasn't my favorite Jeopardy but it made me have a few laughing spasms. My Grade: A-

[SKETCH] "How are you doing?" in Banana Republic: This was okay. I've never been in Banana Republic so I guess that may take away some of the humor from this one. It was funny when Will Ferrell came in and was talking to the guy in the dressing room like......i don't know.........someone who's trying to talk to a suicidal guy or drug dealer. This one was Okay: My Grade: B-

[COMMERCIAL] VH1 Behind the Music: Captain and Tenille: I didn't watch it.

[SKETCH] The How Do You Say? Ah Yes, Show: Maybe it's just me but I don't find these that funny.........I mean they're okay but I think a comedy genius like Chris Kataan, well, even he could do better. Although, this was one of the better "Ah, yes" shows. My Grade: B-

[TV FUNHOUSE] Fun With Real Audio: Oscar Highlights: This was funny. Those cartoonists are twisted and well the word "Unique" comes to mind. But that cat? That was pretty funny. Overall it was okay. My Grade: B

[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Colin Quinn: I think the Weekend Updates have gotten A LOT better with the course of the season. Colin Quinn's jokes are even funnier plus Darrell Hammond as "Bill Clinton?" That cracks me up EVERY single time! And when Chris Kataan was "dancing" to the Cher song "Believe?" That was great! A Terrific Update! My Grade: A

[MUSICAL GUEST] Garbage: I don't really like the band; I didn't watch it.

[SKETCH] Dog Show: These are WEIRD! What more can I say? But it was funny....like when David Larry (Will Ferrell) was talking about bing gay and he's like "Maybe I am and Maybe I am!!" Classic funny stuff. But I think they could've done without Drew's character kissing Molly Shannon's character...the skit would've been fine w/o it. My Grade: B-

[COMMERCIAL] VH1 Behind the Music: Def Leopard: Usually I don't like the VH1 things but this one was funny especially at the end when Chris Parnell just all of the sudden ran off stage. My Grade: Overall: B For a VH1 Parody: A

[SKETCH] Terrance Maddox models for art class: This is sick sick sick! But it's kind of funny....I guess. It's almost too sick though, even for this SNL viewer. My Grade: C

[MUSICAL GUEST] Garbage: Didn't Watch

[COMMERCIAL] VH1 Behind the Music: Fred Schneider: Nope, after seeing theDef Leopard one, this did not amount. My Grade: B-

Overall Grade for the Show: About an A- or a B
