Sylvester Stallone / Jamiroquai
September 27, 1997

[OPENING] Oprah's Book Club

An amusing sketch having Marv Albert appear on Oprah. Norm MacDonald was actually pretty good as Albert, but the writing was pretty weak. However, it did have some good moments, like when he introduced "family friend" Rod.

Grade: C+

[MONOLOGUE] Sylvester Stallone

Pretty funny having the characters from "Rocky" come out and play their parts. Some good impressions.

Grade: B

[COMMERCIAL] Assjet Xerox

Amusing, but nothing special.

Grade: C

[SKETCH] Rita Delvechio

I always thought this was funny, but not as funny as it could be. This was one of the weaker Rita sketches.

Grade: C-

[SKETCH] Car accident victim bad-mouths Stallone movies

I liked the way Stallone was able to take some jokes about the terrible movies he has made, and there have been quite a few. It went on a little too long, but it had a great premise.

Grade: B

[SKETCH] Roxbury Guys

It definately had some good ideas, but it didn't gel together as well as it could have.

Grade: C+

[SKETCH] Janet Reno decides whether or not to investigate Clinton

One of the weaker segments of the show. It didn't really have any good jokes or ideas, it was just a chance for Will Ferrell to do his impression of Janet Reno.

Grade: D+

[TV FUNHOUSE] Fun With Real Audio: Casablanca Outtakes

Very funny. You can't go wrong with flatulence jokes, especially when you put them in "Casablanca."

Grade: A+

[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Norm MacDonald

Some good jokes from Norm as always, and Ana Gasteyer and Richard Jewell were both funny.

Grade: B+

[MISCELLANEOUS] Joe Pesci confronts Stallone

Although not really a skit, it was funny to see them talk before introducing Jamiroquai.

[SKETCH] Computer Store

Not as funny as it could have been, but still pretty amusing and it was fun to see Stallone portray someone like that.

Grade: C+

[THE LOST DEEP THOUGHTS] by Jack Handey

Although not an especially good one, I was thrilled to see the return of "Deep Thoughts," so I'll give it a high grade anyway.

Grade: A+

[SKETCH] Planet Hollywood

Very weak. The writers were obviously desperate for an idea.

Grade: D+

[SKETCH] Lou's Lovely Daughters

Cheri Oteri was hilarious, not to mention the only bright spot of this segment.

Grade: C+

[COMMERCIAL] Elton John's Tributes to Other Dead Celebrities

This sketch/"commercial" was over just when it was going somewhere!

Grade: C

[MUSICAL GUEST] Jamiroquai

I'm not a very big Jamiroquai fan, but I suppose they did pretty well if you are a fan.

OVERALL

I was VERY disapointed, but it did have its moments.

Grade: C
