Sylvester Stallone / Jamiroquai
September 27, 1997
[OPENING] Oprah's Book Club
Well, I've never liked Meadows' Oprah, but Norm was good as Marv Albert. "The only way I got through it was with the help of my fiancee Heather ... and our close friend Rod!!!" LOL!!!!
Rating: 8 out of 10
[MONOLOGUE] Sylvester Stallone
I started to chuckle during Breuer's Mickey, and I was ROTFL when Morgan came out as Mr. T. Kattan at the end as Adrian topped off a great monologue.
Rating: 9 out of 10
[COMMERCIAL] Assjet Xerox
Pretty funny. I only hope they don't use it 50 times this season like they did with last year's commercial parodies. Why is Will Ferrell in almost every one of these?
Rating: 7.5 out of 10
[SKETCH] Rita Delvechio
Okay, but I was expecting the first skit to be a lot better. Stallone was good as her husband. The writing could have been better in this one.
Rating: 7.5 out of 10
[SKETCH] Car accident victim bad-mouths Stallone movies
A little predictable, but all in all, a good sketch. It was good to see Stallone willing to take a bit of an ego hit. Ferrell was good as the EMT. "What are you doing? You're punching an accident victim!!"
Rating: 7.5 out of 10
[SKETCH] Roxbury Guys
One of the best Roxbury Guys ever! It was especially funny when Kattan got elbowed, and then thrown out of the car. I also liked when Rocky broke down and said "I can't dance!!" and Ferrell and Kattan are like, "It's okay. No one saw anything."
Rating: 8 out of 10
[SKETCH] Janet Reno decides whether or not to investigate Clinton
Started out good, but I didn't like the ending much. Ferrell's Reno kills me every time!!
Rating: 7.5 out of 10
[TV FUNHOUSE] Fun With Real Audio: Casablanca Outtakes
Okay, but I would have rather seen them do the Ambiguously Gay Duo. Some parts were hysterical though!
Rating: 8.5 out of 10
[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Norm MacDonald
It looks like Norm has improved his delivery over the summer. One of his better "Updates." Ana Gasteyer was funny as the Lilith person and Richard Jewell didn't really have much to do. What was the reason of having him on the show again?
Rating: 9 out of 10
[MUSICAL GUEST] Jamiroquai
I don't really like Jamiroquai, but this song was okay. It sounded a little too "disco-ish" for my liking though.
Rating: 6.5 out of 10
[SKETCH] Computer Store
Hysterical!! Stallone was great as the confused worker, and Ferrell is always good as the normal guy being victimized by weird people (Ex.: Jim Carrey sketch in the jacuzzi).
Rating: 8.5 out of 10
[THE LOST DEEP THOUGHTS] by Jack Handey
It is good to see "Deep Thoughts" back ... hopefully for good.
Rating: 8 out of 10
[SKETCH] Planet Hollywood
This was pretty funny, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in real life! Tracy Morgan is off to a good start this season, as is Jim Breuer.
Rating: 8 out of 10
[SKETCH] Lou's Lovely Daughters
One of the best sketches of the night!! Cheri Oteri's dazed character was incredibly funny, and Stallone was good as the desperate dad.
Rating: 8.5 out of 10
[COMMERCIAL] Elton John's Tributes to Other Dead Celebrities
Was funny while it lasted but a little short, probably because of time. The same thing happened to a Bill Brasky sketch a while back.
Rating: 6 out of 10
OVERALL
A good way to kick off the season! Stallone was great and I really liked the new, high-energy opening song and graphics.
Rating: 8 out of 10
