Nathan Lane / Metallica
December 6, 1997

[OPENING] Brian Williams covers Well Babies Tragedy

although done before, and done better (The Simpsons for instance), it still was very funny, Will was excellent B+

[MONOLOGUE] Nathan Lane

could have been worst, could have been better, I'm glad to see they lampooned that dopey Lion King song, but they didn't need everybody there B-

[COMMERCIAL] Chess For Girls

pretty lame to be honest, one of the worst commeicals they've done in awhile D

[SKETCH] Craig and Arianna's Spartan Cheerleading dream

this was pretty good, a good way to bring some life to some tired characters B

[SKETCH] The Quiet Storm with Chris Garnett

it was ok, but frankly I've already seen the same plot with this same sketch, but Nahtan Lane was very funny B-

[SKETCH] Sister Wendy Beckett's Art Odyssey

I didn't even realize this was a real show, until I saw a TV Guide article about it. This was hilarious, maybe the funniest sketch on the show A

[SKETCH] The History Of Vaudeville (minority songs)

this wasn't bad, it lasted too long, but it had it's moments B-

[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Norm MacDonald

one of the better weekend updates with Norm, one of the best parts? it was short B+

[MUSICAL GUEST] Metallica

I'm a Metallica fan, so I was looking foward to them more than anything, and they didn't dissapoint with "Fuel". They rocked the place, and we found out that SNL doesn't have a 7 second delay A

[COMMERCIAL] Songs That Ruined Everything

This was hilarious, probably the best sketch on the show, although I have to admit some of their choices were kind of strange (Jump, not some Hager song for Van Halen?), but it still had me ROTFLMAO A

[THE LOST DEEP THOUGHTS] by Jack Handey

I've never been a big fan of these things....it was ok C

[SKETCH] Vance helps Miss Milo into costume

this was kind of a creepy sketch if you ask me...and not in a good way D

[MUSICAL GUEST] Metallica

Another good performance, just wished Marianne would have been able to hear herself better, she was fine towards the end, but in the middle she sturggled, still the song rocked A-

[SKETCH] Santa Claus the ex-convict

this was funny, I'm not sure if Colin Quinn is ever going to do another type of role, but right now, he's very funny in this type of role B+

[THE LOST DEEP THOUGHTS] by Jack Handey

see above comment, again pretty lame C

all and all a pretty good show, Nathan Lane is very funny, and he has an ability to make something out of nothing, Metallica was the best musical guest they've had this year, overall grade: B+
