Nathan Lane / Metallica
December 6, 1997

Overview- Yet another well done episode. I've said it before, but this has to be the best cast and set of writers ever in the history of SNL. They can even breath life into the worst skits.

Sketch- Well Babies Tragedy- I first saw Jenny come on and said, "what the hell?" It scared the piss out of me. But then came Will, and all the world was right again. This has got to be one of the best opening sketches ever. It reminded me of when Buckwheat got shot, if you've seen that episode. Sorry Chris, but that is one poor impression. But, it was overshadowed by the tremendous writing and acting.

A+

Monolouge- Nathan Lane- This, uh, was great. For some reason, when they have the cast and the host run around the set singing, it is really funny. They did it with Mike Meyers, and it twer funny.

A

Commercial- After a break from commericials, there back with a bang. This is just like all those crappy commercials for little girls crap. It was hilarious.

A

Sketch- Spartan Dream- I really didn't think they could pull off another spartan sketch that was really different. And yet...

A

Sketch- The quiet storm- This didn't go anywhere for the first minute, but when Lane stepped up, it was great. He is so like midday hosts, its really scarry.

B

Sketch- Sister Wendy's Art Show- Nobody in the audience got this. This, if you hadn't guessed, is a real show on PBS. And the parellism is so great, It was monstrosly funny. That audience sucked, okay? Never laughed at all the good jokes. Bahhhh.

A

Sketch- History of Vaudelville- Great great great. Thats all there is to it. Great.

A

Weekend update- Same old stuff. Lane made a great Costello.

B

Commerical- Songs that ruined everything- What? Two commericals in one show? YESSS! Oh, yea, it was funny too.

B

Sketch- Vance & Miss Milo- This one really dragged untill the end when they put on her costume. Then it got some good chuckles. Anything that makes you wait that long for a punch line had better be good.

B

Sketch- Santa the Ex-con- Good for a few laughes. Glad that they tried to use everybody in this show, even Colin. Too bad no Tracy.

B

Lost Deep Thoughts- Yea yea

B

Overall- Hey! Where the hell was the cartoon? Damn it, don't lead us on with false promises of a cartoon and then crash them down like a house of cards. Oh, well. It was a great show. Nothing below a B, although the Miss Milo might have gotten one if they Lane hadn't been so good. See ya next week.

B+
