John Goodman / Paula Cole
February 7, 1998
[OPENING] Linda Tripp confronts Monica Lewinsky over dinner:
Among the better topical openings, but how could you miss with such natural material?
GRADE: B+
[MONOLOGUE] John Goodman and Dan Aykroyd
I was never a big fan of the Blues Brothers and I've been watching the show since day 1. However, they do generate a degree of excitement.
GRADE: B
[SKETCH] Morning Latte
This one had its moments. Cherri O has the ditsy morning hostess down pat.
GRADE: B
[SKETCH] Bill Clinton disagrees with several of the Ten Commandments
Clever use of today's hot topic. Not a classic, but definitely was fun.
GRADE B+
[SKETCH] CBS World Of Sports: Eye On The Olympics
Again, not a classic but it had its moments.
GRADE: B
[TV FUNHOUSE] The X-Presidents
This was downright bad. They need to stop doing this one.
GRADE: F
[SKETCH] Emeril Live on the Food Network
I'm no Jim Breuer fan and this didn't help
GRADE: D
[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Colin Quinn
Colin's best yet. He's no Norm, but he was clicking this night.
GRADE: A-
[MUSICAL GUEST] Paula Cole
I went out and got a snack
[SKETCH] Judge Judy
Irwin Mainway was one of my all-time favorites from the golden era. It was nice to see him back in this contrived sketch.
GRADE: B
[SKETCH] Martha Stewart Living promo
A good takeoff of a genuinely obnoxious person.
GRADE: B-
[SKETCH] Sabado Chistoso
It wasn't bad, but it really wasn't too memorable. However, better than most stuff from the last 30 minutes.
GRADE: B
[SKETCH] When cobras attack
Overall, I'd say this was one of the worst sketches in the program's history--particularly its ending. Was I missing something here?
GRADE: Double F-
[SKETCH] Storytellers (with Neil Diamond)
A contrived excuse to use Will F's decent Neil Diamond impersonation.
GRADE: C-
Overall:
GRADE B (I missed Norm)
