Mayor Rudy Giuliani / Sarah McLachlan
November 22, 1997
[OPENING] Giuliani shows Colin Quinn his other side
Not really a good opening. I liked Molly Shannon and Chris Kattan making fun of the Mayor and then he showed up in the background wearing that outfit or whatever the hell it was. Colin Quinn also made this fun to watch. B-
[MONOLOGUE] Mayor Rudy Giuliani
This monolgue started out weak in the beginning. But Norm MacDonald pushed this grade a lot. He was awesome as the hitchiker Rudy picked up on the way over to the studio. I also liked the items Giuliani said was ok to do again. Best Line was what Norm said: "If you ever need a ride i'll take ya there or some other place." B+
[SKETCH] Nightline (with guest Saddam Hussein)
Pretty interesting. Hammond was always enjoyable to watch as Ted Koppel. Will Ferrell was funny as Saddam Hussein. Giuliani was okay as (who else) himself (thats basically the only character he played on the show). Best Line: "BACK OFF GIULIANI!! Your just jealous cause you lost a friend. So Saddam you coming to the states anytime soon?" A-
[SKETCH] Rita Delvechio and her mom prepare for Thanksgiving
This was an okay skit. I like this character. Oteri always makes me laugh no matter who she plays. Giuliani was funny to look at as her mom. Quinn added some life to this skit. But it died down after awhile. Best Line "If I basted that thing one my time. I'd be a masterbastor!! Aw mom, you set me up you bitch!" B+
[SKETCH] Mary Katherine Gallagher in school Spelling Bee
I'm really getting tired of seeing this character at almost every show this season. Jesus, why dont they use the Roxbury Guys more than they have done so far then this character. I mean they are making movie out of it arent they. So advertise who the hell they are. Anyway, Ferrell and Giuliani saved this skit. C
[COMMERCIAL] Graffiti ... The Party's Over
Not really one of their better commercials. "If you write graffiti on a wall, we'll put on right underneath that you suck!" B-
[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Norm MacDonald
I dont really remember the "Weekend Update"'s.
[MUSICAL GUEST] Sarah McLachlan
Great singer. Great song. A
[SKETCH] The Joe Pesci Show
One of the two best skits of the night. I love Jim Brueur's Joe Pesci imitation. he always makes me laugh when he makes those long stares into the camera. Tracy Morgan and the mayor (as i like to call him) added some spunk to this skit as well. They should have put this in the beginning of the show instead of Mary Katherine Gallagher. A+
[SKETCH] Friggin' Giuliani!
The other better skit of the night. Both back to back. I loved how Giuliani made fun of his own mistakes. He responding to every question with "Friggin' Giuliani!" This was Giuliani's best skit. A+
[SKETCH] Janet Reno's Dance Party
I was happy to see them bring back this skit. I always laugh at Ferrell's Janet Reno. "All right, Im sick of these lies!" I like the part when the mayor entered and then the crowd then Reno said "All right!! Shut up!! Shut it!!" The fight was funny as well. B
[SKETCH] Colin Quinn Explains The New York Times
Never like this skit. Never will. Simply explained right there. Thank you. F
[SKETCH] Perspectives
YESSS!! I was so glad they put this back on the show. I thought it was dead. I always laugh my ass off at Meadows' responses to the answers that are always sad. A great way to end the show. A
OVERALL:
I didn't really like this week's show. It had it's skits but not enough. I just hope next week (with host Nathan Lane and music guest Metallica) would be better. B-
