Mayor Rudy Giuliani / Sarah McLachlan
November 22, 1997

[OPENING] Giuliani shows Colin Quinn his other side

I missed the opening but I heard it was funny.

[MONOLOGUE] Mayor Rudy Giuliani

Rudy did an okay job with the monologue. He did mess up a little, but there were some funny lines that made up for it. He should host one more time before he's out of office.

Grade: B+

[SKETCH] Nightline (with guest Saddam Hussein)

I loved this sketch a lot! Will Ferell has to be the funniest person on the show. His impression of Hussein was right on the button. The end was cool when Saddam and Ted Koppel were dancing and walking together. Pure comedy!!

Grade: A

[SKETCH] Rita Delvechio and her mom prepare for Thanksgiving

I'm getting pretty tired of Cheri's Rita character, but this sketch had some funny writing in it. I bet Rudy was having a ball playing an old lady because he seemed to be enjoying it. (In my opinion, I think Cheri Oteri should leave the show at the end of the season and do movies or a sitcom.)

Grade: B

[SKETCH] Mary Katherine Gallagher in school Spelling Bee

Now I am really getting sick of this sketch. Molly Shannon is funny but her character is just getting rusty. I'm guessing this has to be at least the 10th M.K.G. sketch ever. The funniest lines came from Will Ferell and Rudy Guliani. Ferell's character was total slapstick! I was rolling on the floor.

Grade: A-

[COMMERCIAL] Graffiti ... The Party's Over

FREAKIN' FUNNY!!! Yes, this was the coolest commercial of the season, right before my second favorite which is the cookie dough commercial.

Grade: A+

[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Norm MacDonald

Norm at his usual antics. It was cool to see Sarah McLachlan and Ana Gasteyer talking about the Lilith Fair. The song was pretty funny.

Grade: A

[MUSICAL GUEST] Sarah McLachlan

Sarah McLachlan is so beautiful and talented. This was a great performance. I wish she had performed twice. She has such a beautiful voice. Did I mention how beatiful Sarah McLachlan looks! She's a hotty (meaning she's one fine woman)!!!

Grade: A+

[SKETCH] The Joe Pesci Show

This was one of the best Joe Pesci Show's I've seen. I'm glad they used Guliani as himself and saying how he has helped lower crime which aggrivated Joe. My other favorite J.P.S. would be the one with Jim Carrey as Jimmy Stewart.

Grade: A

[SKETCH] Friggin' Giuliani!

This was my absolute favorite sketch of the night! Guliani had me laughing so hard I was crying. The best line I've heard in a while was "Friggin' Guliani!"

Grade: A+

[SKETCH] Janet Reno's Dance Party

I know a lot of people say that this is a sketch that gets rehashed all the time but for some reason I still like it a lot. Again, Will Ferell is tops with his Janet Reno impression. I love when he says "I love that song. Play my song again!!"

Grade: A

[SKETCH] Colin Quinn Explains The New York Times

Colin Quinn is a funny dude. His commentary was funny but got old after awhile. I wish Colin would be in more sketches because he is a funny and talented performer.

Grade: B

[SKETCH] Perspectives

Another sketch that has been done more than twice. It's still funny because the topic now deals with the guest on the show unlike the first two times where Tim Meadows had to explain about his show and stuff. Tim Meadows is funnier than ever. I'm glad he is still on the show.

Grade: B+

Overall:

This is so far my top pick for best episode of the season. I missed the Claire Daines and Chris Farley episodes (shame on me!) so I can't compare it with those episodes. The show only lacked the appearance of Tracey Morgan who I think is one funny dude. Otherwise it was full of smart and clever writing and great impressions.

Overall Grade: A
