October 25, 1997

[OPENING] Farley gets permission to host

This is the first time in a while that I have seen the host in the opener. Maybe they should consider doing it more often! It was a hoot seeing Farley fall on Lorne's desk. "Chris ... that's not cardboard!" Welcome back, Farley!

Grade: A-

[MONOLOGUE] Chris Farley

This show seems to be on a roll! Talk about a star studded night! Chevy Chase, Chris Rock, AND Chris Farley all in one show! I must be dreaming!!!! It is always funny how they crack on how long "Timmy" Meadows has been on the show. This season has VERY good monologues so far. Keep it up!

Grade: A

[COMMERCIAL] Yum Bubble Genital Herpes Gum

I am usually not a big fan of the commercials. This one wasn't so bad though.

Grade: B

[SKETCH] Morning Latte

WOW!! Talk about hilarious! This sketch absolutely had me in stitches!! I haven't laughed so hard off of an "SNL" sketch since the very first Mary Katherine Gallagher. Ferrell and Oteri play off of each other wonderfully. I am looking foward for my next cup of "Morning Latte!"

Grade: A+

[SKETCH] Mary Katherine Gallagher

Not too bad. I usually love this sketch but I thought that this one was just so-so. They should have capitalized more on Mary K. dancing. I think that is where she shines. It was great having the two best "fallers of 'SNL' history" in one sketch! Well planned! I love it when Mary flashes us with her panties like she did at the end of her last fall!

Grade: B

[COMMERCIAL] Martha Stewart: Living promo

It is really hard to tell the difference between Ana and Martha Stewart. They both have the same shaped face! Acting wise they at an A+. I think that the writing was a little weak though. The Christmas Edition of Martha Stewart nude last season was much better. Still I can't complain!

Grade: B-

[SKETCH] Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker

I was hoping that they would do this sketch! Unfortunately ... it seemed, with the exception of being at an aerobics class, this sketch was same old. It needed a better "fall" at the end. I will never forget the Christina Applegate episode in which he totally threw is body on top of the fake coffee table.

Grade: B

[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Norm MacDonald

I'm not a big "Weekend Update" OR Harry Carry fan. I liked it when Norm picked up the kidney or whatever that was! I really don't remember exactly.

Grade: C+

[MUSICAL GUEST] The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

I like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones! I usually just skip over grading the bands because you usually know if you are gonna like it even before you see the show.

Grade: A

[SKETCH] Goth Talk

I am, again, not a big fan of "Goth Talk," but this happened to be done exceptionally well! I liked the Idea. The frogs was a great addition! Best "Goth Talk" yet!

Grade: A-

[SKETCH] The Sally Show

Oh my heaven!!! This goes right up there with "Morning Latte!" Absolutely EVERYONE was right on with this sketch. This was an ingenious idea! Chris Farley looked like a giant. I was in stitches when he grabbed Ana's shoe! It was great to see Meadows laugh in the sketch. Usually they go too far when they pull people arms off ... but this came out fantastic. WOW!!! I couldn't ask for more!

Grade: A+

[SKETCH] Hank Williams Jr. records Monday Night Football song

It's gonna be hard to follow the last "Sally" sketch! This wasn't very good. Great acting was again wasted in a poorly written sketch.

Grade: C

[SKETCH] The Super Fans ... where are they now?

It was good to see them back! Still could have been better!

Grade: B-

[SKETCH] El Nino fights on The Weather Channel

Very cute idea! I am glad they hit on El Nino. This sketch came out well. It seems that they have been putting half way descent sketches on at the very end (at least in my opinion).

Grade: B+

OVERALL:

This episode had some HUGE highs and no sketches that I would call total failures! Great Job! This is gonna be hard to beat for best overall episode of the season! I hope Farley comes back next year. I wouldn't mind seeing this one repeated soon!

Grade: A
