Chris Farley / The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
October 25, 1997
First, just let me say that I absolutely can not stand Chris Farley. I realize that he has some loyal followers, and this might tick them off somewhat 'cause I was biased from the beginning. So here goes ...
[OPENING] Farley gets permission to host
It had promise of a good show with Chris as the host. Chevy Chase showing up was an unexpected delight, and it was good to see Tim get some extra exposure that he deserves. Was the table supposed to not break?
Grade: B
[MONOLOGUE] Chris Farley
I loved the line Chevy said about being Robert Downey Jr.'s sponsor. For all of you who don't know, RDJ (one of my favorite actors) got busted for using again. I liked the scene with Chris and Ana in the dressing room. I thought that maybe I had misjudged Chris ...
Grade: B
[COMMERCIAL] Yum Bubble Genital Herpes Gum
Ewww ... Funny though.
Grade: B
[SKETCH] Morning Latte
The best sketch of the entire show. I could not keep my eyes off of Cheri's character. It was soooo funny! "How funny is that?"
Grade: A++
[SKETCH] Mary Katherine Gallagher
Same as all Gallagher sketches. She gets rejected, sniffs her armpit laced hands 'cause she's nervous, and falls through something ... Big surprise.
Grade: C
[COMMERCIAL] Martha Stewart: Living promo
The flaming bag of poo reminded me of Billy Madison. I thought this sketch was rather funny myself. I think Martha Stuart needs to release those demons ...
Grade: B
[SKETCH] Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker
This sketch is so tired. It was funny the first time he did it while he was a cast member, but this sketch sucked! I guess they felt they had to do a Foley sketch 'cause it was one of Farley's best known characters.
Grade: D
[WEEKEND UPDATE] with Norm MacDonald
I suppose I should have been offended by Norm's crack about women drivers, but I love him so much that I couldn't bring myself to dislike anything he ever says. I gotta get me some of that before I die. Oh, sorry that was off the subject ... Anyway, Tracy's bit was funny too about the "other black guy." Does he ever do any sketches?
Grade: A+++ (as usual I LOVE NORM!!)
[MUSICAL GUEST] The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
I don't understand! I just don't understand! Has this guy ever heard of cough drops or something. Was this song pleasant to anyone's ears? What was up with the freak dancin' on the side? At this point, I think Hanson will be better than this.
Grade: F
[SKETCH] Goth Talk
I love Goth Talk. The brother, and the guy played by Farley read way too many cue cards though.
Grade: B
[THE LOST DEEP THOUGHTS] by Jack Handey
Hmmm, I can't comment
Grade: N/A
[SKETCH] The Sally Show
I guess they haven't done a parody like this in a while and felt compelled to do it. Who knows. This show is evidently going downhill after "Weekend Update."
Grade: C
[SKETCH] Hank Williams Jr. records Monday Night Football song
Pointless dribble
Grade: D
[SKETCH] The Super Fans ... where are they now?
More pointless dribble. Loved that guy's underwear though.
Grade: D
[SKETCH] El Nino fights on the Weather Channel
Okay, I am a fan of professional wrestling. They did very little research on this sketch. Ric Flair was nothing like the real Ric at all. It could have been a whole lot funnier had they got it right.
Grade: D
OVERALL:
This was by far the worst show so far this season. It can only get better after this I hope. More Norm please!
