David Duchovny / Puff Daddy featuring Jimmy
Page
May 9, 1998
Overview: Muldar first hosted in the 20th season so you must know there's nowhere to go but up. And while I don't like Puff Daddy I have to admit a duet with the Zepmeister is going to be interesting. Enough blathering. Lets wrap it up.
Opening: The usual so-so beginning. Janet Reno and the X-Files. Pretty hit + miss all things considered. C+
Monolog: The amazing Dave and his lypsynching guitar. B-
Spartan Cheerleaders: Between a 37 year old who thinks the Spartans are great and collects Barbies and an appearence by Paula Abdul I have to say this was FUNTAGEOUS. B+
TV Funhouse: Now this one came seriously close to being offensive. On the other hand, that's always true. A+
Celebrity Jeopardy: Its the last show. I'm tired and worn out. All the same qualms apply but that therapists and the rapists is worth a lot to this jaded reviewer. B
Puff n Page: Almost riveting. Certainly the best thing about Godzilla's soundtrack. (Damn well near the whole movie too.) A-
Weekend Update: Choose any of my previous reviews of Quinn updates and insert here. It won't change my thoughts one iota. D
Mango: Not nearly as sharp as the SLJ outing but the sight of Duchovny as himself(!) and the appearence of John Goodman help a lot. C+
Oprah/Goat Boy: Oooooooooo. Two lousy recurring skeyches for the price of one. The few chuckles obtained from Duchovny in the Goat Boy makeup were inconsequential. F
Bank Commercial: Wow. A new one. On the season finale too. C+
To the Moon and Back: Haven't seen the series so I don't know ho dead on or not this was. So a mediocre grade. C-
GoBots: This one actually made me laugh once. By far their best outing. D-
Deep Thoughts: If you're going out like a lamb it doesn't mean you can't roar once. A
Overall: It was an average season and an average finale. That's no surprise because that seem to be the case even in great seasons. It was certainly better then Duchovny's last outing.
Anyway the top 5 of the 97/98 season are:
And the bottom 3 are:
And as for this show, I'd give it a C+
