Matthew McConaughey / Dixie Chicks

I have really high hopes for this episode. I love Matthew McConaughey. I think he's a great actor and am looking forward to seeing what he can do here. It can't be as bad as the Ray Liotta episode, or can it? We'll have to wait and see. And now, on with the review:

Cold Opening - Pretty funny. Kattan was priceless as the rep from China. Overall, pretty funny. A little long, but good nonetheless. Grade: B

Opening Monologue - This one started off slow, but when Matthew went backstage, it really got funny. Tracy and everyone sitting back smoking weed was great and then when Matthew kept going back for more. Grade: B+

Blind Date - This one was very funny. Matthew and Rachel had very good chemistry during this sketch. It got a little redundant near the end of the sketch, but the sketch ended before it got too bad. Grade: B+

Jarrett's Room - OMG!!! I did not see this one coming. It was so cool seeing Matthew reprise his character from Dazed and Confused. Horatio Sanz was hilarious as usual as Gobie. The Dixie Chicks' cameo was ok, but not that great. Grade: A-

Next week: Jennifer Garner - Should be good, looking forward to it.

War Rally? - Just OK. Could've been funnier. Tracy Morgan was the best part of this sketch. Grade: C

Musical Guest - N/A

Weekend Update - Very funny WU. Among the standout jokes were:
                           - Lara Flynn Boyle going for Lois Lane ("No, we're not looking for Fat Ass Lane, so get on the treadmill and we'll talk")
- Tracy Morgan as Joe Jackson was hilarious. He had the best line of the night thus far, when talking about Michael and Latoya: "I though for a minute I was staring at two glow-in-the-dark vampire bats!"
- Doug & Edna Vagisil joke was very funny
Grade: A-

Club Traxx - Matthew McConaughey was the only good part of this sketch. Wasn't very funny otherwise. "Like WOW!" Grade: C+

"Troy, you're fired!" - Somewhat funny. It was good to see Kattan finally in a sketch this season where he wasn't in the background. It went on a little too long though. Matthew is on fire tonight. He is doing very well this evening. So far, this episode is shaping up to be the best of the season. Grade: B

Second Time Around - Not very funny. Matthew was mildly amusing in this with the Jamaican accent, but overall, it wasn't funny. Grade: D

Musical Guest - N/A

McConaughey's Red Hot Texas Chili - Oh, man, this was absolutely hilarious! I'm so surprised Matthew didn't laugh once. If it were Fallon, he wouldn't have gotten through it. Great end to the show. Grade: A

Overall Thoughts: Wow, what a great episode! Easily the best of the season. I'm so glad they rebounded after the abysmal Ray Liotta episode. Matthew was definitely the standout of the night. Sadly, Darrell Hammond wasn't in any sketches. I have a feeling that he'll be out at the end of this season. Fabulous episode, best of the season.

Overall Grade: B+
