Robert DeNiro / Norah Jones

By Diamond Browne

Hi I am Diamond Browne and this is my first SNL review and I hope I can pull this off. I love Saturday Night Live, and I looooooove Jimmy Fallon. He's so cute and funny! I don't mean to play favorites with cast members but anyway I just think he's really cute.

Preshow Thoughts- It's almost Christmas time, so they have gotta throw in some Christmas skits. Robert DeNiro is hosting, if I am not mistaken this is technically his first time ever. Ofcourse he's a better dramatic actor than a comic actor, but he's Robert DeNiro and he automatically gets respect. Since he is hosting they probably wouldn't do a Jarret's Room sketch (darn!) or a Wake up Wakefield, well I guess they could you never know. Nora Jones is performing, some jazz vocalist, don't know her that well. I hope they show Jimmy in a lot of skits!

Opening- Is it just me or was this political opening better than any skit in the show! They had DeNiro in the opening which is something they rarely do with the host. I usually hate these political introductions but this one was actually alright. It was funny how they were making all of these naughty phrases out of Middle Eastern names. I don't know how DeNiro was able to pronounce them, but he did good enough for us to get the message.

7/10

Monologue- This wasn't that good, but anyway he's Robert DeNiro! What can you say he's one of the best. Atleast he handled the monologue all by himself without the other cast members interrupting, that can get pretty tired sometimes (sorry Jimmy). Still it was very brief and certainly not the best I've seen.

4/10

Thomas Jefferson- I didn't care too much for this skit either. I thought Robert DeNiro was good in the sketch hitting on Maya, but it just wasn't that amusing to me. Maya's cool, she's biracial like me, and I think that kind of comes in handy for her because she can play black and white characters, which is cool!

4/10

Peter Pan- The idea of hiring a Peter Pan of 35 yrs. experience is just funny. It was funny when they said "O' Peter you're ever so queer", and then Robert DeNiro jumped on him. It was better than some of the other sketches tonight, but not as good as you would hope

6/10

Santa- I hated this sketch, it wasn't funny, and seemed like some of the lines they said were intended to get a laugh from the audience, but didn't. Neither Maya or DeNiro made me laugh. I kind of guessed they would get Robert DeNiro to play Santa Clause and they did. They should have had a better concept besides the elf and Santa fighting over personal reasons.

3/10

UN Weapons Inspecters- yay Jimmy and Deniro together, but still didn't like it!

4/10

Judge Horace- This was an okay sketch, pretty good compared to the others tonight. Tracy Morgan is so funny, they should have him do more skits. My mom watches all of those court shows so if was funny to see them do a skit with a ghetto Judge. It was also funny seeing Horatio Sans as a girl. It seemed like DeNiro stumbled on some lines. Tracy definitely saved the skit!

7/10

musical act- Nora Jones

Weekend Update- thank God! Sometimes I feel like Weekend Update is the only reason to watch nowadays. With Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon as the best SNL duo ever! Put that aside, this was one of the worst Weekend Updates I had seen. Nothing made me laugh! Come one I want to laugh people! They did have Tracy and Maya come in as Whitney and Bobby, which I should have predicted because everyone's been talking about that Diane Sawyer special. Whitney needs to get it together for real! She's too talented to be into that crap. The sweaty Bobby was gross. I thought the Sylvia and Marty Fleinback thing with Chris Kataan and Rachel Dratch was dumb. The jokes Tina and Jimmy were saying were bad too. I was dissapointed!!!!!

3/10

A Very Versace Chanukah-
What is this worst skit ever show! This was the worst Versace skit I had seen. I laughed when Maya did it on the Reese Witherspoon show, but this was not funny at all. Maya Rudolph can be really funny sometimes, but than sometimes she can overdo it. Maybe if she had said "Gettt Outttt!!!!!!" more it would have been funnier.

4/10

Car Salesman-
The only thing funny and the only thing targeted at being funny is Robert DeNiro slapping around Seth Myers. DeNiro was good in this sketch and so was Seth Myers, Amy was pretty good as well too.It was funny I laughed a bit which is a lot to say considering the entire show.

7/10

Bedtime Story- How long has Chris Kataan been on the show now? When is he leaving I always thought that he was just annoying. In this skit he plays DeNiro's son, and it wouldn't have been funnier if Robert DeNiro hadn't messed up some of the lines.

5/10

musical guest

Radio Active Bear- Finally a skit with Jimmy in it. They didn't show Jimmy enough like they should have. He had really small parts tonight. That sucked. This skit was just crazy though. It seemed like it belonged at the end though. It was so/so!

6/10

Total Score: 60/120
Not good at all! Only half the points were scored tonight!

Final Thoughts: This was not a good show! I was dissapointed because I expected there to be more excitement. More Jimmy! More humor! Hopefully next week will be better!
