Seann William Scott / Sum41
October 6, 2001

Going into this week, I was hoping that things could try to get back to normal a little bit and SNL could have a better showing than last week. Last weeks show was not very good; and thats being nice.

Yesterday Cleveland beat Seatlle 5-0 in Game 1 of the ALDS. Bring it Seattle. I hate Ichiro. If our pitchers can pitch near what Colon did yesterday, there is no chance Seattle can win.

OVERVIEW

I expect better this week. Seann William Scott should be a good host.

COLD OPENING

I heard the reports of Bush making a return to the show, but I didnt know if it would happen. The show took it about as far as they could, maybe a little bit farther. Funny when Ferrell said that Bin Laden should have challenged him to a "beard off." Good to see this impersonation back on SNL.
GRADE B

MONOLOUGE

Better than most I have seen recently, just got a bit redundent and predictable towards the end.
GRADE B-

COMMERCIAL / LAW AND ORDER PARKING VIOLATIONS UNIT
Nice to see NBC can make fun of itself here. You just know that this commercial will be shown at least 4 more times this year. A funny premise that didnt really go anywhere, plus Rachel was maybe the worst person onthe cast to be the cop.
GRADE C

JEFFERYS
Ive always liked this skit, this one was allright, not as good as the others. The Sean Hayes episode set the mark for this skit and has not been challenged. Hoartio is usually ok in this, he was on for too long this time. Maya looked like she froze in front of the camera or something. Always a treat when Will rides in on that motorized scooter.
GRADE B-

E! at THE EMMYS
I actually thought this was the worst sketch of the night, usually it is not this bad. Just seemed to be missing something tonight. Chris Kattans Kid Rock impression was hilarious though.
GRADE C

JARRETS ROOM
This is my favorite recurring sketch, and it was great tonight. From the guy playing the DJ (still not sure whio is who yet) to Jill Butt, this was great. The yearbook pictures were hilarious. I liked Ferrells mustache, he won the award for most likely to be a nark and Jimmy said his mustahce was saying "Im not a cop." That was classic. Kattans picture was good and the whole Jill Butt thing was as well. Great skit
GRADE A

MUSIC - SUM 41
Fast Forward. Looked bad though.
GRADE N/A

WEEKEND UPDATE -
I guess it was average. Alot of dumb stuff like the "visceral editoral" by Tina Fey. I know im in the minority but i didnt like the whole shark thing with Chevy Chase. I cant remember anymore specifics, but it could be improved.
GRADE C

PATROTIC MAN AT WORK
I suppose this is one of those you either loved or hated. I loved it. It was great writing. All of the other actors did a great job. Seann didnt look too much like a boss, I would say that was the only negative in this whole sketch. When Ferrell walked in that was a great laugh there. Then when the workers started chanting USA USA was good. Amy's clapping a bit off though.
GRADE A

ANTONIO BANDERAS SHOW
Solid. The show is picking up steam as it goes on tonight. Amy played Paula Zahn dead on. Chris Kattan was great as usual as Banderas, and Jimmy plays the guy behing him with the guitar great. No appearnce by host here.
GRADE B+

JACK HANDEY
Im not sure why so many people that have been watching the show for a long time think this is funny. That was about the least funny thing i have ever seen.
GRADE F

MUSIC - SUM 41
Skipped it again. Looked bad though.
GRADE N/A

APPROVAL CENTER
This may have been the funniest thing of the show now that I think about it. It was short, but it got the job done. Seann and Chris were the best here. The questions they said the Approval Center was asking them were great. Anyone notice Chris Kattan's character rasing the roof at the end?
GRADE A

PORN STAR DINNER
Show ends on a good note here...this was quality and could have aired earlier. Amy was convincing and Sean played a good boyfriend. The waiters lines were fairly predictable though.
GRADE A-

CLOSING CREDITS - Dont cut them off so short.

This was a great show after a fairly weak opening. Seann William Scott wasnt the worlds greatest host, but he did just fine, and he was funny. Hopefully SNL can build on this, but that looks doubtful with Drew barrymore / Macy Gray next week.

ACTOR OF THE NIGHT - Chris Kattan
SKETCH OF THE NIGHT - Approval Center, Jarrets Room
WORST SKETCH OF THE NIGHT - E! , Jack Handey
OVERALL GRADE - B
