The Yankees. Any fine American that is a baseball fan hates the Yankees. They have the highest payroll in baseball and every year get the top free agents. The last team in the American Leauge to beat them in the Playoffs was my favorite team, the Indians back in 1997, which seems like it was about 30 years ago now. I guess i was happy the Yankees lost to the Diamondbacks, but they werent much better. Needless to say I dont really like Jeter that much. The only reason is he plays for the Yankees. He seems to be an alright guy; you dont hear much about him off the field, getting in trouble like some other roughians in MLB. Eiither way, I would say his acting skills are questionable.
Many people may have noticed I failed to submit a Billy Bob Thornton review. It was over a hectic Thanksgiving holiday and I didnt have the time. I probably could have squeezed it in somewhere, but that show was so bad, it didnt even merit my time. I could go on and on about the whole show, but I wont. Lets just say it was a disater and should never be shown again.
Does anyone else think the show Scrubs is funny? I think it is the funniest new show this year. I wouldnt mind seeing a cast member from that show host.
Lastly, I did attend the Ohio State - Michigan football game this year. And for the first time since 1987, Ohio State won in Ann Arbor. I couldnt believe when we won, and I almost still cant. I paid $65 to get in, which was more than I wanted to, but I drove all the way there, so I really had no choice. I was in row 92 (of 96) right in the middle of the Michigan student sections. Michigan fans have to be the lamest in the world. They were so quiet. Also on a University of Michigan note, congrats to you for saying that you will not assist the government to interview Middle eastern students. That kind of stupdity can only come back to hurt everyone. Ann Arbor isnt exactly known as an "Anti-Bin Laden" area. Why they would choose immigrants and terrorists over US interests is beyond me.
COLD OPENING - As previoulsy noted, Darrell Hammond does many
impressions well. John Ashcroft is not one of the better ones.
He needs to do more Rumsfeld. Nonetheless, a pretty decent and
humorous opener; one of the better ones of the year. Darrell needs
to do more than the opening skit every week, though. Hes too
much of a talent to waste.
GRADE B+
MONOLOUGE - Kind of what you would expect I guess. It wasnt
very surprising, it was kind of funny, and thats what the show
is all about. I wonder if he really knows how important the fans
are, or he is just sayiing that. I dont think most players do.
People like me pay outrageous amounts for tickets, parking and
concessions so stiffs like Marty Cordova can sign 3 year/ 9 million
dollar contracts with the hapless Baltimore Orioles.
GRADE B
PREPERATION H - Yeah I cant remember what I said about this
the first time. I dont think I liked it much more than last time.
Kattan funny though.
GRADE N/A
IGLESIAS BROTHERS - I guess this was ok, but it seems that
something better could have been the first skit. Derek Jeter
looked like he was reading straight off the cue cards the whole
time.
GRADE C+
YANKEE WIVES - Ill give credit where it is due to Jeter fior
dressing up like that. I dont think many baseball players would
do that. This idea was pretty original as well. Hopefully the
material was cleared with some of the other Yankees or there could
be trouble in spring training. A nice appearence by David Wells
and David Cone as well.
GRADE B
MASSAGE - This was entertaning, but it didnt go anywhere.
It was pretty damn predictable. I'm sure Derek Jeter has never
gotten a massage before too. The music Kattan played was pretty
funny as well. I think he is offically my favorite cast member.
It was always him, Will and Chris Parnell. Now that Parnell
is gone and Will has tired, I'll say Kattan is my favorite. Sketch
ended up being kind of weak.
GRADE B-
DOG COMMERCIAL - After I just said Will was getting a little
old, he is the only cast member who could pull off this role.
My favorite Ferrell moment still has to be from 2 years ago in
the Julianna Margulies show in the sketch where he is feeding
Chris Parnell and the look he gave Julianna Margulies when she
was debating whether or not to eat the apple pie for the little
brother, played by, of course, Chris Kattan.
GRADE B
DEREK JETERS TACO HOLE - Besides a couple of New Jersey remarks
and a parody of the song "Kokomo", nothing to write
home about here. Jeter looked a tad out of place.
GRADE C
DEALING WITH MOM AND DAD - Chris Kattan plays the little kid
better than anyone I know. Someone else noted, I forget who,
that he always seems to wear the same thing when he plays the
kid. This is true. Amy can pass for a kid, but not like Chris.
Will is always the selection for the dad, and with good reason.
I thought it was pretty good when Jeter came back and was like
"your kid sucks." Not a bad little skit here. I liked
in the preview for next week the used the side blue border like
they do for real NBC shows. A nice dose of realism.
GRADE B
MUSICAL GUEST SHAKIRA - Ok, she is pretty hot. The song is
listenable (is that a word).? But I think that it speaks volumes
about her talent when she one of two musical guests that each
get one song. Thats worse than being a musical guest and only
getting one soing by yourself....she should have acted in a sketch
just based on how good she looks.
GRADE B
WEEKEND UPDATE - I loved this Update!! Just joking. I cant
see what everyone sees in this dynamic duo. Tina Fey sucks.
Jimmy Fallon is not suited for the Update desk. Point / Counterpoint
wasnt half bad. Seth Meyers is the most promising newcomer this
year. They could spice up Update by having a guest apperarence
by Bill Clinton (the Darrell Hammomd) version. I just dont think
these two will ever grow on me, but you never know. I guess its
like I could never understand the people that hated Colin Quinn
for no reason... I guess its kind of the same, just the opposite.
GRADE C
OSAMA LOSING CONTROL - I just hope this is really happening.
My bold prediction of the review : By the time my next review
is read, either him or Mullah Omar will be dead or captured.
I think their time is running low. Again, Will is the only person
who could probably pull this impression off. Horatio was awful
as usual. Everytime I see him, I think less of him as an actor.
GRADE C+
PERMS - Not very entertaing. I just remember it wasnt all
that funny. It seemed like Jeter was going to crack here. He
did a decent job of not though all night when I look back on it.
GRADE C-
MUSICAL GUEST BUBBA SPARKXXXXXXXX - This guy flat out blows.
GRADE F
CHRISTMAS IS HERE - They have done this before. I am not sure
when they will do it agin this year (probably the next two epsidoes).
Somehow though, it stays funny. It cant forever though. I did
notice this. Tracy Morgan looked geniuenly pissed off here. If
that lame bit was my only appearence of the night, I would be
too. He just has no role anymore. Come to think of it, I dont
remember seeing Dean Edwards either, but I could be wrong. Tracy
just looked like he was embarrased to be out there, and I cant
say I blame him. Chris Kattan looked funny as well.
GRADE B
JACK HANDEY - All of his little novel stories have been really
horrible this year. But I dont see how anyone could laugh at
this one. It was just so dumb. It was by far the worst this
year. I would rather jsut see a shot of the host for 20 seconds
than this. Dont show this anymore. It almost ruins the show.
GRADE F-
Well all in all, an average show. And for an athlete hsoting, it was pretty good. On the standard of this season, it was certainly acceptable.
SKETCH OF THE NIGHT - Cold Opening, Dealing with mom and dad
WORST SKETCH OF THE NIGHT - Jack Handey, Iglesais Brothers
ACTOR OF THE NIGHT - Chris Kattan
