Rob Lowe / Eminem
October 7, 2000

PreShow Thoughts:

* I've been really excited about the season premiere for a long time, especially since the announcement of the new WU duo.
* Rob Lowe is a talented actor, and I enjoyed his '96-'97 show.
* Eminem isn't my favorite, but I'd take him over the boy bands any day.

Opening: Bush/Gore Debate-

Was a little on the long side, but still pretty funny. The Lock Box thing was the highlight of the sketch for me.
Rating: 8.5/10

Opening Credits-

I like the new opening, but why is Rachel Dratch still a featured player?!?

Monologue-

This was decent, but the monologues where the "audience" asks questions are not my favorite.
Rating: 6.5/10

Commercial: Corn Chip Nail Tips-

Mildly Amusing. Kind of reminded me of the Nike Turkey thing.
Rating: 6.5/10

Monday Night Football-

Fallon's Miller is not bad, but not close to Carvey's. This sketch met my expectations, and by the way, Minnesota is going to kick the Bucs' highknees Monday Night.
Rating: 8/10

Ralph Nader and Rob Lowe-

I didn't really get the point.
Rating: 6/10

Court TV: Pros and Cons-

This was hilarious! Missed the beginning, so I really didn't understand it, but hilarious nonetheless.
Rating: 8.5

Musical Guest: Eminem w/ Dido-"Stan"-

Not so bad, (not so bad at all).
Rating: 7.5/10

Weekend Update:

Fey and Fallon were great, and it was good to see Tim back one last time. The rappers were pretty funny, too.
Rating: 9.5/10

Blind Date-

Slow. I don't know why, but I kind of liked it.
6.5/10

Dateline-

Where have I seen this before? Good impression, bad sketch.
Rating: 5/10

Musical Guest:Eminem-"The Real Slim Shady"-

If we haven't heard this song enough........
Rating: 6/10

Chris Kattan prepares for a talk show sketch-

They could have done more with this.
Rating: 7/10

Commercial: Dream Team Video-

This sketch really made me proud to be an American.
Rating: 7/10

Overall-

Solid show, though extremely average at times. Rob Lowe was a great host, and Eminem was decent.

Real Rating: 7.1
Gut Rating: 7.5

Performer of the Night: Rob Lowe
Sketch of the Night: Weekend Update
The "Fix Myself a Snack" Sketch: Dateline

PostShow Thoughts:
* Where was Rachel Dratch?!?
* Didn't it say in the opening that there was going to be a Smigel cartoon? Or
did I just miss it?
* I'm looking forward to the next couple of shows (especially the Carvey one).
* I'm not a big fan of recurring characters, but I was hoping there would be a
Boston Teens sketch or something!
