Guess what gang: The entire 1998-99 cast of "SNL" will most likely be returning this fall for another season with the show.
Tim Meadows will be back for his ninth full season on the show; Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, and Cheri Oteri will be back for their fifth full season; Ana Gasteyer, Chris Kattan, Tracy Morgan, and Colin Quinn will be back for their fourth full season; and Jimmy Fallon, Chris Parnell, and Horatio Sanz will be promoted to cast member status for their second season with the show.
If this information is so, as an NBC press release and a press confrence this week in Pasadena, California are indicating,, it will be the first season since 1988-89 that the entire cast (featured players included) returned from the previous season.
The only cast member not noted above is Molly Shannon, because it is not known if she will be spending the full season with the show. It is rumored that Shannon may take some time off early on in the season to star opposite Jim Carrey in the Ron Howard movie "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas." If this is the case, it won't be the first time an "SNLer" has temporarily departed to work on a film -- Mike Myers took time off in 1992 to star in "So I Married an Axe Murderer."
"SNL" is scouting for some new talent as well. Improv Island reports that in mid-July, the show flew Chicago Second Citizens/ImprovOlympians Ali Faranakian, Stephnie Weir, Rachel Dratch, and Deb Downing to New York for auditions. Weir and Dratch auditioned last summer with current cast member Sanz.
