Cold opening - The Mute Marine
Marine song about Ollie North. It wasn't a lot of work on Phil's part I'm sure, but he's just perfect for the main singer

Monologue
Quick one, Shatner says he hopes his fans will be okay with the episode. It segues into the next sketch -

Sketch - 16th Annual Star Trek Convention
"Get a life!" Shatner is appalled at the Star Trek nerds and their attention to the most inane, ridiculous details of the show. Really, really good sketch
Image
Nerd (Dana): Are you saying we should pay more attention to the MOOFIES?
Shatner: No! That's not what I'm saying at all! You guys are the lamest bunch of - I'm not never seen - I can't believe these people!

Sketch - Sweeney Sisters Christmas Party
I'm not really a Sweeney Sisters fan, my opinion is void.
Image

Sketch - T.J. Hooker
TJ Hooker is trapped on the hood of a speeding car for a long time. He takes to writing a love letter and sleeping (and sleeping through two gas station stops.)
Image

Musical performance - Lone Justice "Shelter"

Weekend Update with Dennis Miller
KitKat Bar decoration, Reagan, and prostates! Al Franken talks about enlarged prostates, and gets into the details of the operation while growing more and more fidgety and nervous.
Image
"Now settle down or I'll turn this newscast around and take you all home right now"

Sketch - Star Trek V: The Restaurant Enterprise
This is my favorite sketch from this episode, vastly overshadowed by the convention sketch. The dramatic music is present most of the time and heightens during moments of 'peril', such as there being no dressing on food.
A patron is choking and Spock gently puts a hand on his shoulder, sending the lodged food out of his mouth. Sulu is played by a heavier-than-Takei extra, we learn he's taken too much advantage of the 'free food for employees' policy.
Khan boards the restaurant, bringing a health inspector in an attempt to defeat Kirk ("KARHHK")
Image
Spock: Doctor McCoy, would you do me the very great honor of eating my shorts?

Sketch - Look At That!
Shatner and wife Nora are getting ready for a party. Shatner is obsessed with his appearance, thinks he looks SO good and is SO manly. Talking to himself in the mirror
Image
That's a young butt and I've got two of them!

Misc - Christmas Memories
Kevin Nealon's memories of Christmas - breaking in gift shops, mistaking police cars for Christmas lights, Grandma's bad driving, badly baked cookies, chocolate dried and melted on the stove, fruitcake on the table ("His name is Steven,") throwing up on bed sheets. This was really funny
Image

Sketch - Lost Ending of "It's a Wonderful Life"
Dark and morbid twist, beating up the wheelchair guy (yeah I haven't seen the movie)
Image

Musical performance - Lone Justice "I Found Love"

Film - The True Life Story of Frankie Toussaint
With Griffin Dunne. His character's father dies, and the doctor lazily says there are "a couple things" he could've done to save the man's life. Dunne beats the man to death with a telephone and gets the electric chair.
Image

Musical Performance - Buster Poindexter "Zat You, Santa?"
I bet this guy got a lot of ladies

This is Shatner's only time hosting. He was a fun host, up for spoofing himself. He made use of cue cards plenty, but hosts reading them only bothers me in bad episodes. I feel this episode is around par with the Tom Hanks/Keith Richards 1988 episode I reviewed. YOU WILL BE CITED!

Sulu is played by a heavier-than-Takei extra

That's Akira "Leo" Yoshimura, legendary member of the SNL art department. (He also played Sulu in the original "Star Trek" sketch, which probably turns the "letting yourself go" bit into something of an in-joke.)

I didn't realize this was Shatner's only time hosting. Apparently the term "Get a life" had been coined a little earlier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_a_life) but that sketch really launched it into the pop vernacular. I also recall nearly falling out of chair during the butt sketch because it was just sooooo Shatner.

I just found out that the girl from Lone Justice does make another SNL appearance; about a year later singing backup for Robbie Robertson. The BoDeans are also in there too (no word on whether Will Ferrell misplaced any babies there).

Seriously? I mean, yeah, it's corny as hell, but how have you managed to not see this? I feel like it requires a conscious decision.
Who'd make up someone named Regina?!? It's the capital of Saskatchewan!

I've never seen it either, and I've seen tons of old movies. Just never got around to watching it.

Arrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhh... now stop it. Wonderful Life, Little Match Girl, Biscuit Eater, all made me this way
Oh yeah and Bambi too.
Cause as a matter of fact, as we
discovered on the train...tomorrow never happens, man...it's all the same fucking day, man.
