yes, those were both great premises...but i'm not sure how that tatoo one could be executed...oh, you were just thinking of a commercial featuring Jason solo, right?

It's just too coincidental that the Colorado balloon boy is named Falcon, and of course there should be a sketch in homage to the incident that held a whole country spellbound and in prayer for 2 hours....Somehow they should tie in the adventure of Falcon with the back story of....wait for it....THE FALCONER!
The kid is actually The Falconer when he was a child....cut to 25 years later, and that incident is what made the Falconer the way he is.

Instaplayback review....to the DVR!

Gerard Butler/Shakira 10/17/09
Cold Open
Senators Snow, McConnell and Baucus, (Jenny, Will & Bill) come in to talk to Obama, MCConnell is straight up about opposing everything Barack does. If it is good for the President, it's bad for the Republicans. They make him mad....OH NO!...another appearance od 'The Rock' Obama! Loved it the first time, and I'll love it whenever they want to bring it back. Dwayne is really good in this....and there is Biden. I love Jason. Tells O'Bama he had no right in winning the Nobel. Nice unexpected opening.

Monologue:
Don't know Gerard much. First Scottish guest, that is hard to believe. An actor/stage type singer, I can see a musical show ahead.
He compares movies where he is in a shirt with the movies he does with no shirt, like Reynolds' comparison between his comedies and his action movies. If he sings in real life, he is doing a good job pretending to be a mediocre singer, mixes up his song with action scenes. Here is the slapstick, or should I say, the physical comedy this cast is so good at. And there is Kristen doing the funny duo, she is so good. I actually enjoyed this monologue more than some.

Fuquay Satin:
Selling Grand Hoochie Skank Rose, the champagne you pour down womens' ass when celebrating. Good commercial.

Game Time With Randy & Greg:
Oh boy, there is Bill's alien sports commentator again. I can watch Bill's characters as much as they can do. Kenan makes a good straight man in this. Bill's mannerisms and vocal inflections are hilarious. Gerartd is brought on as Kyle Sazlow, the guest, who plays with Bill's alien tail, and makes him upset. Just bizarre enough. Ask for alien stuff enough, and you will eventually get it. This one's a keeper.

Beauty & the Beast:
Kristen and Gerard play the lead roles, have a dispute about which one is the beast. Nice angle. Kristen is the go-to gal for the musical lead pieces....she is just great. Bill the candelabra to settle the dispute, but only dates candelabras....except once in college he dated a menora. Bobby the clock and (Jenny?) the teapot end the sketch with a gang bang reference, or 'tea party', as they referred to it.

MG:
Shakira. Not my style of music, but her exotic style is fun to watch and listen to, although that pulled straight back hair is not as attractive as when it is loose and down. I could watch 5 of these segments, with the sound down even. It's mesmerizing, like watching a belly dancer.

Weekend Update:
I like the way Seth defused the balloon boy story with a one line dismissal, as a non-story.
2 Gays Guys From NJ, Who Are In The Military: about the only Bill sketch I can do without. They talk about Don't-Ask-Don't-Tell policies. Gay humor just doesn't go that far with me. Polishing our helmets, you should see how shiny he gets it.....yikes....
Another balloon reference, as Seth talks to the balloon hovering next to him, but without a boy in him, he is just NOT A STORY. But it was enough of a story to get a second reference.
Gerard Butler: Gives a message to his Scottish relatives as Seth translates. Not bad, Seth can carry most anything...
Kristen as Tamara Parks, sufferer of PGAD, Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder. I just can't hear Kristen talk about orgasms enough. I think I caught PGAD from her. Watching her have multiples and trying to contain them sure is a hit with the audience, too. I hope that isn't canned.

300 Parody:
Gerard as King Leonidis talking about not rescinding the Dont Ask Dont Tell policy. Hmmmm. Is that a huge issue in the country this week. 2nd reference to it. More gay humor, almost exactly a year since the Paul Rudd episode where the whole show was along these linbes.

What Up With That?
Although they keep pronouncing it What's Up With That, except when they sing it. Guests include Abby, cameo with James Franco, and Bill as Lindsay Buckingham. Will as announcer, Fred as the sax player, and Jason as the hilarious funky dancer. I had to pause it on Jenny & Nasim, and yes, they look very much alike to me in their facial structures. No wonder I find it hard to tell them apart in wigs and makeup. Kenan is hitting his stride lately, as in this he keeps breaking out into the theme song. Gerard comes on as the Sexocutioner, and there is Kristen as Pikabo Street, and more funny dancing. What a goofy but entertaining sketch. He didn't even let Franco or Buckingham even talk. I love it when they utilize much of the cast this way.

Cottage Cheese capmaign ad pitch:
Introducing Kristen in a 'new' character Trina, seems familiar, is this Trina's first appearance, or are all Kristen's insane characters starting to blend into one giant mass? Liked it more thsn Gilly or Penelope. I guess this was one too many for Kristen for today, to me. What a workhorse.

DAVEHEART:
Braveheart's cowardly brother. Pretty much sums it up in few words. A definite 5 til one sketch, but entertaining for what it is. They can't all be gems. Everybody's a critic...Okay, that is definitely Jenny at the end, with a (French?) accent.

Next up....Taylor Swift.....as both host and music guest....interesting. She's cute. We'll see if she can carry a show.....See you then....now to see how the gang liked the show on the live thread...

Speaking of your breasts.....

Sketch:
Store called the Knob Polisher. Or it can be a straight up commercial parody where someone is advertising their service, like Virgania Horsen's Balloon Rides.

Sketch:
A private fertility clinic called the Spermatorium, where prospective parents (or maybe even exclusively lesbians), where the men are paraded in front of the clients. They will be the ones who will provide fresh samples, after being selected by stating their attributes and positive reproduction qualifications.

Hmmmm...these may be a little too rough for a Taylor Swift show....let's go in a different direction

Sketch:
Taylor is the tooth fairy, placing $ under the Bobby's pillow, only he wakes up with a stiffy and wants to sex up the fairy...

Reboot, reboot...

Sketch:
New Highway Patrol recruit training class, answering questions and reviewing pursuit/chase protocols....but every student wants to end all hypothetical pursuit scenarios with 'then shoot him in the head'...

Sketch:
A B&D S&M B&B, called the Pudding It Inne

Okay Mike, get your mind out of the gutter....concentrate...

Mr & Mrs Hertzo Goode seminars, teaching courses in dominance and submission to young couples

Of course contractually, Taylor must perform in at least one musical sketch, so how about putting her in a college musical about ACORN, or maybe a karaoke sketch....I guess a Deep House Dish would do, although they don't usually do such quick turnarounds....Or Taylor can be a struggling young singer trying to break into the business in Nashville, auditioning for sleazebags and such.

I wonder what impressions Taylor can do? I'm jonesin' to see a vailt classic Vincent Price Special.

I'm just not visualizing 3 weeks in advance what Taylor is going to bring to the table to carry SNL all by herself. Of course there will be the obligatory Kanye West reference, although if they try to get Kenan to play Kanye, I'm getting up to make a sandwich...

Throw it on the ground!

Talk Show:
Bill hosts a show called Media Hoaxers & Fame Whores....first guest include the balloon boy (Falcon) and his family, Octomom (played by Abby), and the runaway bride from a few years ago.

Sketch:
First humans around a campfire.

Good Golly! It's 4AM already, I'd better get this in before going to bed....to the DVR!

Taylor Swift 11/7/09
Cold Open
Wonderful. Fox News is so ripe for parody, it just oozes comedy. Kristin as Greta Van Susterenenanehan, looking like she had a stroke. The botox paralyzed her face. A little mean, but so funny. If you work on Fox, you deserve to be mocked. Bill as a great Shepherd Smith, Bobby as an exquisitely abhorrent Karl Rove, Kenan in his ubiquitous impression, this time as Juan Williams, Will as Britt Hume, and Fred as the token Democrat that never got in a word edgewise. Bill had that voice down pretty good, this is just great. They overplayed the election results to depict as Obama's political life being over, while downplaying the Democratic victories. And Jason doing a BRILLIANT Glen Beck, I want as much of that as you can do. The political comedy writers haven't lost a thing, my favorite part of the show usually....

Monologue:
I had to reconfigure my expectations when I heard Taylor was hosting (AND singing)....that is a big task, but I kept my hopes up.
Monologues aren't my favorite, but there she is looking all cute, singing a song for the monologue about the monologue. I like it actually, her cute-ness wins out, and being a songwriter/guitarist, I give her total leeway and respect her being able to just get up there with her guitar and her voice and her cute-ness. Kanye reference, loved it.

Swine Fever:
Bobby in a commercial filmed years ago, way before the swine flu outbreak. Hilarious. Brought to my mind how the chocolate diet product AIDS company felt after the AIDS epidemic started.

The View:
Always love it, and Taylor as Kate Gosselin was very entertaining, with Kristin's Elizabeth Hasselbeck going on & on about Kates 'hair. I always love Fred's Joy, complaining about her armflap fat....So what, who cares? I love that. Kenan's Whoopie is always a hit with me, and I still can't tell if that is Jenny or Nasim playing Barbara. I'll get it one day, but in make-up and wigs their similar facial structures make it even harder. And as Nicholas Cage. Nice work on the voice, Andy. Hope to see more....

Movie Trailer for firelight:
Bill as a frankenstein character, a parody of the Twilight movie I guess (I haven't seen it), using Frankenstein and mummy characters. I can't get enough of this type of stuff.

Hollywood Dish:
Taylor being interviewed by the Entertainment Tonight knockoff. Bill & Kristin as the insipid hosts, making facial expressions while Taylor answers questions, in an ambush hatchet job. Long but I liked it.

TRAAAPD:
Taylor talks about driving wile texting, explains that the worst drivers are parents. Very amusing. Not quite the 'sexting' sketch I suggested, but close enough. Taylor even looks cute in those hideous braces.

Weekend Update:
Seth cracks wise, we laugh.
Fred as Nicholas Fein: Let me put it this way. When Nicholas Fein comes on, I think....ok, let me start again, of all the sketches that SNL puts on....if you were to rank recurring characters....comedy is tough, made even tougher when pounding a weak character into the ground....it's like when you don't really want to write anything...he is amusing on some twisted level, but...the only thing I...why do they...but...and...
Abby as Sarah McLaughlin: Loved the singing voice Abby. Needs a stronger premise, but promising nevertheless.
REALLY?!??!? Brought back Amy....welcome back for a minute. I always love this bit....slams the CDC for slipping Swine Flu vaccines to Goldman Sachs before hospitals and schools. Well deserved slam....well done....

Penelope:
Oh well, every show has to have a slow place, and I was prepared for this one. Learned here on this forum that Taylor was a Penelope fan. Find a happy place, Mike, it'll be over soon.

Scared Straight:
Another cookie cutter, which barely deserved a first run. Those are 6 minutes I'll never get back....

Roommates:
Hey, I recognize that the lead is Nasim....it is easier without the makeup and wigs. That is Nasim, isn't it? Taylor is the roommate, and Nasim is on a date with Andy, but is overly attached to TAylor. At least it was better than Penelope and Scared Straight...,.

Bunny Business:
The soundtrack to a movie I'm not even sure they bothered to finish....NOW WE'RE TALKING!
A great opportunity for a singing sketch, parodying different performers like I like so much.
Fred as a hilarious Randy Newman, Kristin as a funny Natalie Merchant (great job on the voice, Kristin), Taylor as a wonderful Shakira (my favorite one), Andy as a great Adam Duritz of Counting Crows, Abby as Christina Aguilara, Bill as Eddie Vedder,& Kenan as Jennifer Hudson singing about give me the money for this soundtrack. Best 12:55 sketch ever....

See you next week...

You can't buy me, HOT DOG MAN!

January Jones should advertise for a store or a service or an amusement ride called 'Mustache Rides'.

Re: Deconstructing SNL...With Love(Joseph Gordon-Levitt Edition)

Postby UnfrozeCavemanLawyer on Wed Nov 18, 2009 6:08 am

With Sarah Palin injecting herself back into the news lately, please re-import Tina Fey for a cold opening skewering her, she sure is giving enough ammunition. C'mon Downey, this is your forte, the laughs are just waiting to be tapped.

Sketch idea:
With funny dancing being a comedy goldmine for this cast, have a sketch where ancient tribes have a dance-off.

Let's see....Joseph Gordon-Levitt....I liked him in 3rd Rock (a parody, maybe? Reimport Jane Curtin? I doubt that). I also saw him in some interesting Indie movies, not all bad.
How about a Woodstock sketch? His image couldn't be farther from that, so at least it would break any typecasting...

How can he be fit into a sketch about trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in New York City, and what a circus that could turn into...

I'm just givin' it to ya straight.....Biden style....

Okay, Palin is way too much in the news not to skewer her this week. Lorne, re-import Tina and let Gordon-Levitt portray Levi.
The laughs are just waiting...
