Sudeikis Has Another Year with ‘SNL’
Jason Sudeikis will stay with Saturday Night Live for at least one more season, through 2012, according to a new interview with Reuters.
“I signed on for seven years – I’m in my sixth now,” he explains. “I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to do sketch comedy for 15 years. You can only have so many ideas.”
In past interviews, Will Forte and Andy Samberg have also eluded to signing an initial seven-year contract. If we assume the entire cast is locked in for that amount of time—barring weight gain, excessive O.J. jokes, or anything else that upsets the powers that be—we can similarly expect another season with Samberg, Bill Hader, and Kristen Wiig. By the same logic, longtime cast members Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers, and Kenan Thompson have already extended their initial commitments and can presumably fly the coop at their leisure.
More from the Sudeikis Q&A…
On juggling SNL and a film career:
“It’s a matter of using your summers effectively. Our ‘school year’ as we call it on the show, is basically September to May and then we look for summer jobs. Instead of life guarding or mowing lawns, we try to do movies.”
On post-SNL career goals:
“I’d like to extend my career a little bit into different genres. I’d love to do a drama.”
On his favorite SNL character:
“I love those ESPN guys that Will Forte and I did last year. It’s fun watching them because I never get to see what Will is doing next to me when we perform them. Will and I also do (the characters) Jon Bovi who sing opposite lyrics to Bon Jovi songs. That’s a movie idea we should explore. Or a television series. We’ll see.”
