‘SNL’ Video Recap: Zach Galifianakis / Vampire Weekend
Expectations were high amongst comedy nerds last weekend. For the first time this season, SNL bestowed hosting duties upon an actual comedian—the subversive and unpredictable Zach Galifianakis.
The result was an offering that didn’t veer far from conventions, but did provide a handful of satisfyingly weird moments.
Let’s roll the clips…
President Obama Health Care Cold Open
…now if Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, Dana Carvey, Dan Aykroyd, Jim Carrey, and Chevy Chase had dropped by, then we would have had something.
Zach Galifianakis Monologue
This was easily the best monologue of the season. Zach talks and plays piano. No gimmicks. Very funny.
The Vogelchecks (“Kissing Family”) at a Funeral
There are some fearless mofos in this cast. Kudos to Bill Hader for somehow adding shock value to this sketch.
The Bidet Sketch
Zach Drops by the Set
A show highlight. From the title card alone, there was no doubt this would be a winner. And hooray for the old-school SNL reference. (In the ’70s, the show would throw to commercial with a shot of an audience member and superimposed text.)
Today Show 4th hour with Hoda and Kathie Lee
I love Jenny Slate, and I get why they don’t want to let go of this, but Michaela’s Hoda is unmatchable.
Vampire Weekend performs “Cousins”
Weekend Update Excerpts
Weekend Update: Mo’Nique (Kenan Thompson)
Weekend Update: Will Forte’s “Women’s History Month” Song
What Up With That?
Yes, yes to flute-playing Zach. This sketch never disappoints. I know they are beating it to death, and for now, I’m fine with that.
CNN Reports with Wolf Blitzer
Sudeikis has managed to make a Wolf Blitzer impression entertaining. That’s a feat in itself.
